Frequently asked questions

›What size is an India Passport photo?

Print size 35×45 mm. The head, measured from chin to top of hair, must be 80%–85% of the photo height (Passport Seva says the face takes up 80–85% of the photograph, with the full head from top of hair to bottom of chin). pixtidy exports 630×810 pixels.

›What are the Indian passport photo requirements?

Passport Seva's ICAO guidelines ask for a colour photo of 630 × 810 pixels: a close-up of the head and top of the shoulders with the face taking up 80–85% of the photo, the full head from top of hair to chin, centred and not tilted, on a white background with uniform lighting and no shadows, looking at the camera with eyes open and mouth closed.

›Can I wear glasses in my Indian passport photo?

Take them off. The Passport Seva guidelines say glasses should be removed to avoid reflections.

›Do I upload my own photo if I apply from outside India?

Yes, through Passport Seva at Indian embassies and consulates (GPSP 2.0): the Embassy of India in Washington says applicants must upload an ICAO-compliant photograph and links to these Passport Seva guidelines. Check your own embassy or consulate's page too, as missions can add their own instructions.

›Is the Indian passport photo the same as the OCI photo?

No. The Indian passport photo is 630 × 810 pixels on a white background, with the head filling 80–85% of the photo. The OCI photo is square, at most 200 KB, on a plain light-coloured background that is not white, so a white-background passport photo can fail an OCI upload. Use the OCI photo page for an OCI card application.

›Can I take an India Passport photo at home with my phone?

Yes. Ask someone to take it from about 1–1.5 m away at eye level, in daylight, in front of a plain white or off-white wall. Face the camera with a neutral expression and remove your glasses unless this document's rules, listed on this page, allow them. Upload it here and we crop, size and check it for you.

›Why do photos get rejected?

The most common reasons are: head too small or too large, shadows on the face or background, wrong background colour, glasses or glare, a tilted head, blur, and photos edited with filters or AI. Our checker tests each of these before you pay.

›Do you edit or retouch my face?

No. Officials reject photos altered with filters or AI, so we only crop, level and resize. We never change your face or replace the background.

›Is my photo uploaded to your servers?

No. Everything runs in your browser. Your photo never leaves your device and we never store it.

›What if my photo is rejected?

If an official rejects a photo our checker marked as passing, email support@pixtidy.com and we refund you in full.
