Nigerian passport photo requirements for the NIS online portal

The Nigeria Immigration Service passport portal expects a 600×800-pixel JPEG up to 2 MB, with the head (top of hair to chin) taking 50–69% of the photo height and the eyes 56–69% up from the bottom, on a plain white background with even lighting. Eyeglasses are no longer allowed, and the background must not be cut out or replaced with editing tools.

Size and position

The portal's photo upload works with 600×800 pixels and files up to 2 MB, and asks that the photo not be over-compressed (a compression ratio of 20:1 or less).

The head from the top of the hair to the bottom of the chin should be 50–69% of the image height, and the eye line 56–69% of the image height from the bottom.

Background and appearance

The portal's guidance describes a plain, light background and its upload hint asks for white — use a plain white wall to satisfy both. Keep even lighting with no shadows on your face or the wall.

Eyeglasses are no longer allowed. Face the camera with a neutral expression and both eyes open; children under 5 get some leniency.

The portal lists photos whose background was cut out or replaced with software as unacceptable, so shoot against a real white wall instead of editing.

Checking before you upload

The NIS portal has a test upload; pixtidy's Nigerian passport photo maker checks the same things first — head size, eye line, background, lighting, focus and file size — and exports a 600×800 JPEG.
